As of 2023, Shanghai has issued a total of 434,000 Foreigner's Work Permits. The city is also home to 12,000 foreign talents holding permanent residency permits. Additionally, Shanghai leads the country with over 270,000 students who have returned to work or started businesses in Shanghai after completing their studies abroad.

China's Top City in Cross-border RMB Settlement

In 2023, Shanghai led in national cross-border Renminbi (RMB) settlements, accounting for 43.5 percent of the total, surpassing 20 trillion yuan.
