The World Athletics launched the Diamond League, the world's premier track and field event series, in 2010. The Diamond League is now held in 14 cities in Asia, North America and Europe.
Shanghai was invited to join the series and, along with Doha, served as one of two stops in Asia.
The China Athletics Association and the Shanghai Administration of Sports are the organisers of the event.
