The Empire Code, an extended reality project centering on the mausoleum of the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC), Qinshihuang, unveiled a 5-minute episode at the 30th Shanghai TV Festival.

As the first XR program that is officially authorized on the historical character, it digitalizes the archaeological discoveries of the terracotta warriors and the mausoleum located in the surburb of Xi'an, capital city of Shaanxi province by leveraging the advanced technologies.

The location-based entertainment project was created in an effort to promote and preserve ancient culture, enabling audiences to immerse themselves in a crypt-style adventure.

The project is jointly launched by Shaanxi Culture Industry Investment Group, HTC Group, and Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum. It is expected to be launched in Xi'an and Beijing this summer.

It has gathered experts from various fields including film making, visual arts and archaeology. One of them is the mausoleum's former archaeological team leader, Zhang Weixing.

Wang yuan, the project director, said that the project is not for reviving the artifacts, but rather inviting the audiences to learn about the stories behind.
