The Wujiaochang square will serve as the focal point for activities in Shanghai's Yangpu district during the upcoming Shanghai Shopping Festival, the district commission of commerce said.

Themed "Experience Digital Yangpu", the activities will spotlight immersive, digital, and youthful experiences, featuring three major consumer brands − Play & Shop, Smart & Fun, and Taste & Style.

Play & Shop emphasizes the synergy between commerce, tourism, culture, sports, and exhibitions, enriching consumer offerings and enhancing immersive interactive experiences. A highlight is the 2024 Shanghai Service Consumption Innovation Summit, part of the "Experience the Summer - 2024 Shanghai Urban Experience Carnival".

Additionally, the district will host cultural and sports events such as the Austrian Chocolate Festival, Shanghai International Coffee Festival in Yangpu district, Yangtze River Delta Sports Carnival at Shanghai Gongqing Forest Park, YEAH PARK Dance Festival, JAM Touch Rugby, and pop-up sports and music activities.

Smart & Fun emphasizes the integration of online and offline consumption, cultivating a high-quality, dynamic, and open commercial image for Yangpu. An offline market will feature food stalls recommended by e-commerce platform Meituan, providing foodies with a diverse gourmet experience at one location.

The district will also coordinate livestreams on Douyin, the Chinese version of Tik-Tok, in shopping malls and organize an offline debut of new products on Dewu, an e-commerce platform specializing in fashion brands.

Hopson One Mall will host a limited exhibition for selected brands and Wanda Plaza will organize an offline experience day for Chinese chic brands.

Taste & Style aims to attract fashion-conscious and young consumers from outside Shanghai. Events such as the "Heart-moving Youngpu" offline interactive display will focus on themes like fashion brands, anime, comics and games, and sports, utilizing digital interactive screens.

Under the theme "Universities in the City", the district will host the 2nd Knowledge and Arts Festival, with a special program to celebrate the first anniversary of the temporary pedestrian street on Daxue Road on May 20. Pop-up activities for pets and children, as well as events related to the 2024 graduation season, will take place.

The district will promote car upgrades, home decorations, and household appliances through green energy subsidies to encourage sustainable consumption.

Meanwhile, Yangpu will launch a three-year action plan and related policy measures to promote consumption within the district, partnering with five major State-owned banks − the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the Agricultural Bank of China, the Bank of China, the China Construction Bank, and the Bank of Communications − to host a financial consumption month, enhancing financial support for consumer empowerment.
