Shanghai welcomes Compasso d'Oro Award exhibition
The exhibition Compasso d'Oro Award: Seventy Years Leading Italian Design Trends is underway at Bund 18 Jiushi Art Gallery in Shanghai.
This is the first complete presentation of the Compasso d'Oro Award in China. The exhibition will run until Feb 25, 2024.
The exhibition was curated by Maite García Sanchis, Giovanni Comoglio, Francesca Balena Arista, and Ling Min, with exhibition design completed by the renowned Italian design team Cibic Workshop.
The Compasso d'Oro Award, known as the "Nobel Prise of Industrial Design", is the oldest and most prestigious design award in the world. It has not only influenced Italian design trends but also gained international recognition.

The exhibition showcases over a hundred award-winning and nominated works from the Compasso d'Oro Award collection of the ADI (Associazione per il Disegno Industriale) Design Museum. Through seven independent perspectives, it presents the driving force behind the continuous evolution of the Compasso d'Oro Award over its 70-year history and the ingenious design concepts it embodies.

The exhibition explores various themes and breaks through the boundaries of conventional design thinking, redefining people's perception, and lifestyle habits, giving birth to new categories.
Since its establishment in 1954, the Compasso d'Oro Award has recognised that production is not just an economic phenomenon but also encompasses aesthetics, culture, and customs. During its 70 years, it has become one of the most influential international design awards.

The exhibition features many well-known and highly sought-after masterpieces by renowned designers. For example, the K 1340 children's chair, designed by Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper, won the Compasso d'Oro Award in 1964 for its ability to allow children to express their instincts.

During the exhibition, Jiushi Art Gallery will collaborate with the well-known home design store Casa Casa to create a temporary "Jiushi Art Shop" on site. The gallery aims to convey the significance of the Compasso d'Oro Award and promote the concept of "design around us" to create a better life.
