French fashion house Hermès launched a playful and interactive exhibition Mystery at the Grooms' at the West Bund Dome in Shanghai through to Dec 15 to showcase the house's 16 metiers.

Visitors can use their quick wits and ingenuity to find clues and solve a mystery as they plunge into a universe built around Hermès objects, all stitched together by a common inspirational thread that spans generations: the horse.

"Playing means being together. Play is movement, freedom, imagination, fantasy, lightness ... and the horse is our first companion in the playground of creation," says Pierre-Alexis Dumas, Artistic Director of Hermès.

As they set out to solve this curious case, visitors will discover a diverse panorama of Hermès objects from across the eras, a reflection of the house's imagination and the timelessness of its craftsmanship; present or past, these are objects designed to last, to be repaired and passed on.

Abundant, innovative and singular, these Hermès creations become the center pieces of this lighthearted experience where guests-turned-Hermès-detectives are asked to examine the familiar and the mysterious in a different light.

Axel Dumas, CEO of Hermès attended the opening day on Dec 5 and also joins the show. He said, jokingly, that Hermes started business by making horse products, but lost customers when cars appeared.

The brand had to transform to make bags, scarves, accessories, but they never give up making products for and about "horses".

"We always try to do new things or try anything. And now we do the first universe of horse in the world, in China. We want to have something fun," said Dumas who joined Hermès China in 1997 when the company opened its first store in the country in Beijing.

Now visitors can join the search by booking a free session via the "爱马仕骑境谜踪预约" WeChat mini-program and be sure to bring your fully charged mobile phone.
