Musee d'Orsay masterpieces arrive in Shanghai
Two masterpiece paintings from the Musee d'Orsay, Paris, were unpacked at the Museum of Art Pudong in Shanghai on June 9.
The two paintings: La Chambre de Van Gogh à Arles (Van Gogh's Room in Arles) by Vincent Van Gogh and Des glaneuses (The Gleaners) by Jean Francois Millet are the first two artworks arriving in Shanghai for the upcoming exhibition Paths to Modernity: Masterpieces from the Musee d'Orsay Paris, at MAP, which will take place from June 19 to Oct 12.
While The Gleaners was shown at the China Museum of Art, Shanghai, in 2012, the van Gogh piece will be shown in China for the first time. According to Li Minkun, deputy general manager of Shanghai Lujiazui Group, chairman of the MAP, this will be the largest showcase of the Musee d'Orsay in China. Featuring 107 masterpieces, the exhibition will be tailor-made for MAP and will be presented at the museum in Shanghai only.
