Lens through time: Shanghai exhibition commemorates 100 years of Leica legacy
The Shanghai Postal Museum is hosting the exhibition Witness to a Century: When China Meets Leica, open to the public until Aug 25.
Leica Camera AG, the renowned international manufacturer of premium cameras and lenses, boasts a history spanning over 150 years. The Leica I camera, first unveiled at the Spring Trade Fair in Leipzig in 1925, revolutionized photography with its compact and portable design. This exhibition marks the 100th anniversary of the Leica I camera, celebrating its enduring impact on the visual arts.
The exhibition is divided into four sections. The first showcases rare antique lenses and special limited-edition cameras from Leica's history. The second section includes camera components, lens cross-sections, and design sketches, providing insight into the structures and production techniques of Leica products. The third features a curated selection of covers from the Leica Fotografie International magazine, highlighting Leica's cultural influence in the world of photography. The fourth presents works by Leica photographers from China and abroad, illustrating the century-long relationship between Leica and China.
