Step into Jiushi Art Museum for works by Chinese, Spanish female artists
Jiushi Art Museum in Huangpu district is hosting Balada Del Ouroboros, the fifth exhibition in the 2025 Spanish Art Festival. Running until Oct 22, this exhibition features 44 works by over 40 female artists from China and Spain, highlighting a rich exchange of cultural and artistic perspectives.
The exhibition centers around the "Ouroboros", a serpent-shaped totem symbolizing eternity, transformation, and interconnectedness. Aligning with the Year of the Snake in China, the Ouroboros serves as both a visual focal point and a cultural bridge connecting the traditions and histories of China and Spain.
Organized into five thematic sections, the exhibition showcases a diverse range of media, including painting, video, sculpture, installation, and fiber art. Each piece is selected to encourage dialogue between female artists from different cultural and social backgrounds. For example, Spanish artist Sonia Navarro's STIRPA I, crafted from dyed silk and wooden structures, highlights traditional Spanish sewing techniques. It is displayed alongside Chinese artist Lin Fanglu's artwork, inspired by the Bai ethnic group's tie-dye craftsmanship in Yunnan province, creating a silent yet profound cross-cultural conversation.
The exhibition's design further enriches the experience, with varied wall colors that naturally complement the diverse styles of the artworks. This thoughtful use of color creates a cohesive and rhythmic flow, guiding visitors through an immersive and artistic journey.
