Helong Art Gallery unveils new venue in Qingpu
The new venue of the Shanghai Helong Art Gallery, at No 359 Qingsong Road in Qingpu district, opened to the public on Oct 28 with the inaugural Shanghai-style art series exhibitions.
Founded in 2016, Helong Art Gallery has systematically collected works by leading Shanghai-style painters. Its founder, Guo Weizhong, has spent more than two decades assembling a collection of nearly 300 pieces by modern masters such as Zhang Daqian, Wu Hufan, Xie Zhiliu, Tang Yun, Cheng Shifa, and Chen Peiqiu, covering landscapes, bird-and-flower themes, and other classical subjects.
The new venue offers year-round free admission and spans three floors. A standout feature is the palace lacquerware gallery on the second floor, which houses over 20 exquisite lacquer pieces dating back to the eighth year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1743).
Departing from conventional museum architecture, the building features a bold contemporary design, combining raw concrete with glass curtain walls to create a spacious, art-infused atmosphere. Its split-level layout and soaring gallery heights of over seven meters provide a striking setting for large-scale calligraphy and painting displays.
Beyond exhibitions, the gallery will host a rich lineup of cultural activities, including specialized lectures on art appreciation and educational programs highlighting Jiangnan culture, Shanghai-style art, and intangible cultural heritage.
