Exhibition brings Central & Western Asian art to Shanghai
The Shanghai Art Collection Museum is hosting an exhibition titled Impressions from the Western Horizon: Joint Art Exhibition of Central and Western Asia, showcasing over 100 contemporary works from the region.
The exhibition highlights how artists blend traditional techniques with modern expression. Visitors can explore Central and Western Asia's natural landscapes and cultural heritage through painting, photography, ceramics, metalwork, and calligraphy.
As China's first large-scale exhibition that presents modern art from Central and Western Asia, it serves not only as a contemporary response to Silk Road civilizations but also as a profound dialogue bridging geographical and cultural divides.
Many works reflect innovative fusions of Eastern and Western artistic traditions. Highlights include the Iranian painting Phoenix, where mineral-based colors meet contemporary aesthetic sensibilities. The work's graceful avian imagery reveals unexpected connections with similar motifs in Chinese culture.
Another highlight is the Pakistani calligraphic interpretation of "Shanghai" in Urdu script, transforming the word into a visual statement that honors tradition while embracing modern design.
In addition to the exhibition, supporting events such as cultural exchange and tourism promotion sessions will be held, further advancing cultural, travel, and economic interactions between China and Central and Western Asia.
