Global women's art exhibition echoes a century of creativity in Xuhui
Long Museum West Bund is hosting Echoes of Her Century: A Global Exhibition of Women's Art, a special exhibition that traces the artistic evolution of women creators over the past hundred years.
Featuring nearly 200 women artists from more than 20 countries and regions, the exhibition offers a comprehensive look at the diversity and development of women's artistic expression across the globe.
In the 1920s, pioneering Chinese women artists traveled abroad to study Western techniques. Upon returning to China with newly acquired artistic languages, they created works that blended Eastern and Western aesthetics while advancing a spirit of artistic independence.
From the mid-20th century onward, as multiculturalism and critical thought gained momentum, women artists around the world expanded their creative vocabulary. Moving beyond traditional boundaries, they embraced painting, sculpture, installation, and video to explore personal experience and social issues.
Contemporary women artists continue this evolution, engaging with themes such as ecology and identity while reflecting the spirit of the present era.
The exhibition stands both as a tribute to the pioneers of women's art and as a resonant echo of today's creative voices. It invites viewers to discover, feel, and understand the visions that inspire women artists.
A bilingual exhibition catalogue in Chinese and English will be published during the exhibition, preserving the spirit of this artistic celebration.
