The Shanghai Children's Library is one of the oldest and few independent provincial-level children's libraries in China.

The library was founded in 1941 and serves as an important platform for public services in Shanghai. It operates under the principle "everything for every child" and actively responds to and serves the growing reading needs of young children.

The Shanghai Children's Library, located at No 962 West Nanjing Road, owns a vast collection of over 960,000 books, including modern children's literature and foreign language books. It provides a range services such as digital lending to children of different age groups.

The library's architecture blends Western and Chinese styles, featuring a lecture hall with intricate Western-style decor.

The branch of Shanghai Children's Library in Putuo district, also known as the Changfeng Library, faces north towards Changfeng Park and the banks of the Suzhou Creek.

This modern architectural marvel has four floors, 12 service areas, and 753 reading seats. It opened in 2022 and currently possesses nearly 530,000 books.

The Shanghai Children's Library (Changfeng Library) represents the development of young children into teenagers through its architectural design.

Tips:

1. The Shanghai Children's Library is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. On Mondays, the library only receives reading groups in the morning and operates normally in the afternoon. Opening hours on public holidays are subject to advance notice.

2. During the week, the library is open without need for reservations. A real-name reservation is required for entry on weekends, public holidays, and during the winter and summer holidays.

3. On July 1, 2023, the library resumed collecting overdue fees for borrowed items. With an overdue fee of 0.2 yuan (2.7 US cents) per book per day, readers with overdue records on their card will be unable to borrow further. Please ensure that borrowed items are returned in a timely manner.
