Mingfu Library in Huangpu District
The Mingfu Library in Huangpu District is open to the public free of charge throughout the year. It comprises three buildings: the Mingfu Building, the Huixin Building, and the Lele Building.
Originally known as the Mingfu Library of the Chinese Science Society, the main building, the Mingfu Building stands as the first public science and technology library in China. Completed in January 1931, it was established by the first group of Chinese students who returned from studying in the United States, including Hu Mingfu and Yang Xingfo. The architecture reflects a Western modernist style.
Today, the library hosts a variety of lectures, reading activities, and digital reading promotion events. Serving as a district-level library, it also provides cultural and historical education programs for primary and secondary school students.
