Shanghai Hongkou District Library is a comprehensive network that includes the main library, the Zhapu Branch, and the Quyang Branch, ensuring extensive coverage across the district's northern, central, and southern regions.

The main library welcomed the first visitors at the end of 2010 and has since served as an open-access public library. It provides a wide range of services including book lending, reading spaces, literature collection, literature searches, video viewing, and audio listening services.

The main branch of the Hongkou District Library reopened on Aug 15, 2024 after an extensive renovation. This national first-level library now offers inclusive reading experiences, featuring themed areas, digital services, and a spacious layout. 

Readers can enjoy various amenities, from power outlets and dining spots to new activity spaces and study rooms. Additionally, there are new zones catering to diverse needs, including facilities for the visually impaired and discussion rooms.

Founded in 1957, the Zhapu Branch prides itself on a distinctive collection that highlights works by modern cultural celebrities. The Quyang Branch, which opened its doors in 1987, is recognized as a specialized library dedicated to providing film and television information services.

I. Main library

Opening hours: 9 am to 9 pm (Closed every Thursday morning, open at 1 pm).

II. Zhapu Branch

Address: No 245 Zhapu Road, Hongkou district

Opening hours

Adults: 9 am-9 pm (Thursday 1 pm-9 pm)

Children: Workdays 1 pm-6 pm

Weekends: 9 am-6 pm

Opening hours for winter and summer vacations, as well as national holidays, will be announced separately.

Local Literature Reading Area: 9 am-5 pm (Thursday 1 pm-5 pm)

III. Quyang Branch

Address: No 574 Quyang Road, Hongkou district

Opening hours

Adults: 9 am-9 pm (Thursday 1 pm-9 pm)

Children: Workdays 1 pm-6 pm

Weekends: 9 am-6 pm
