Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk has announced that its warehousing and logistics center in Shanghai's Pudong Airport Comprehensive Bonded Zone is now fully operational, marking another strategic upgrade to its Chinese supply chain.

The new facility sets a benchmark for cross-border pharmaceutical supply chains, featuring intelligent processes that ensure precise temperature control and safety traceability for diabetes and obesity medicines throughout the supply chain.

Approved for both drug and medical equipment operations licenses in late 2024, the center completed its pilot run in April this year.

Built to meet Shanghai's standards for modern pharmaceutical logistics, the hub integrates multi-temperature storage systems, advanced humidity monitoring, and automation technologies, offering both bonded and non-bonded services.

The logistics hub is also part of Novo Nordisk's open innovation center in China, which aims to create an integrated pharmaceutical innovation ecosystem through collaboration.

"This new center is a vital link in our China supply chain and reinforces Shanghai's role as a commercial and innovation engine for Novo Nordisk," said Zhou Xiaping, global senior vice-president of Novo Nordisk and president of Novo Nordisk China. She added that the company is committed to supporting Shanghai in developing a world-class biopharmaceutical industry cluster.

As a long-time participant of the China International Import Expo, Novo Nordisk will return this year with an expanded 800-square-meter booth, showcasing the latest updates from its portfolio. Highlights include the addition of cardiovascular benefit data to the Chinese labeling for its weight management therapy, and a new indication for treating chronic kidney disease with its diabetes treatment.
