CIIE to be fully powered by green energy for 4th straight year
A total of 8.5 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity has been allocated to meet the power demand of the ninth China International Import Expo, which will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) from Nov 5 to 10, marking the fourth consecutive year the expo is powered entirely by green electricity.
Following the release of November's green electricity trading results for the Yangtze River Delta region, the CIIE venues completed green electricity transactions totaling 8.5 million kWh for the month, ensuring that all electricity consumed at the venues comes from renewable sources.
To cover the CIIE's energy needs before, during, and after the event across October and November, more than 15 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity was purchased through inter-provincial green power transactions, as part of efforts to make this year's event a zero-carbon expo, according to State Grid Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Co.
Shanghai has completed more than 13 billion kilowatt-hours of green power transactions, already surpassing the 9.12 billion kWh recorded for the whole of last year and putting the city on course for a fourth consecutive annual record.
Building on the CIIE's use of green electricity as a model, State Grid Shanghai plans to promote the adoption of green power at more large-scale exhibitions and encourage wider participation among enterprises. The initiative also aims to extend the use of renewable energy to a broader range of applications and support the wider transition to a greener, low-carbon economy.
Alongside these green initiatives, organizers have also taken steps to ensure a safe and reliable power supply. Two smart systems — the panoramic smart power supply assurance system and the digital twin smart power security system — will work in tandem to safeguard electricity supply both inside and outside the exhibition venue.
