Volunteer services for the ninth China International Import Expo now extend beyond airport service stations to passengers on board flights.

Since Nov 1, volunteers have been stationed at CIIE service stations in Terminals 1 and 2 of Pudong International Airport. Young volunteers from 10 organizations have come together to form a youth volunteer service alliance, providing enhanced one-stop services for exhibitors and visitors attending the expo.

Three featured services

  • In-flight assistance: Volunteer services now extend to passengers on board flights. Airline staff members can help foreign passengers complete their arrival cards online and provide information on dedicated immigration inspection channels for CIIE participants before they arrive.
  • Medical emergency response: First-aid kits and commonly used medicines are available at the service stations, where staff from the airport's fire and emergency rescue department are on duty daily. Critically ill passengers can also access expedited emergency treatment through a priority pathway at Pudong Hospital.
  • Culture and tourism information: Volunteers will distribute brochures highlighting Shanghai's culture and tourism offerings and introduce visitors to the city's major attractions.

Service upgrades

The service stations have expanded their network of participating organizations, bringing together support from immigration, transportation, medical, and other services. In addition to continuing to offer travel assistance and lost-and-found services, the stations have arranged a foreign-language volunteer team to take turns staffing the immigration information desks.

The team provides information on immigration procedures in 13 languages, including English, Japanese, Korean, and German.

Citywide volunteer service network

A citywide volunteer service network has also been extended beyond the airport through a citywide network. A total of 125 municipal-level urban civility volunteer service stations and posts have been established, with 2,366 volunteers recruited to serve at key locations  including transportation hubs, tourist attractions, and business districts.

Qingpu district, the main host area for the CIIE, has joined forces with Wujiang district in Suzhou and Jiashan county in Jiaxing to recruit 1,258 volunteers. Six specialized volunteer service teams have been formed to provide multilingual assistance, emergency support, basic medical care, and rescue services.

Together, these initiatives complement the airport and citywide arrangements, further strengthening the volunteer service network supporting CIIE.
