Artist La Pie: Shanghai bakery welcomes musicians and music lovers
Artist La Pie, a bakery on Yuyuan Road in Changning district, has become an unlikely gathering spot for music lovers. Among its recent visitors was US singer-songwriter Anson Seabra, who dropped by before the National Day holiday and performed for customers.
Located in a century-old castle-style building, Artist La Pie combines baking, coffee, and art. The space houses two vintage Steinway concert pianos. On pleasant days, a piano is sometimes moved outside for passersby to play.
Music is a regular part of life here. On weekends, professors from local arts institutions offer free piano, violin, or cello lessons to children. The bakery also hosts at least one concert each week.
Visitors can stop by for coffee and pastries, listen to music, or try playing the piano themselves.
