Embracing the New Year spirit: Try out Shanghai-style Spring Festival in Hongkou

The Lunar New Year festivities have commenced at THE INLET, a bustling commercial hub in Hongkou district of Shanghai.

That's in anticipation of the forthcoming Chinese New Year on Feb 10 this year.

Over 100 great activities are set to infuse THE INLET with a jubilant spirit throughout the festival season.

Witness the radiance of lanterns illuminating THE INLET from 10 am to 10 pm daily during the New Year lantern show. Nine magnificent lanterns symbolize the legendary Dragon's Nine Sons from Chinese mythology.

Immerse yourself in an augmented reality interactive game, where participants can gather fragments of the mythical tale of the Dragon's Nine Sons.

No New Year celebration is complete without a bustling marketplace! Indulge in the Lantern Festival food fair, where visitors can indulge in delectable cuisines and marvel at captivating performances.

Elevate your festive spirits with enchanting musical performances. Throughout the festival at THE INLET, enjoy a series of music shows – including three captivating concerts by the Shanghai Pops Orchestra – and the mesmerizing fish lantern parade.

In addition to these lively attractions, quieter sanctuaries await. Engage in art workshops, where you can explore the art of crafting cloth flowers, knitting small items and painting tableware.

Details of the fun activities to be held at THE INLET are as follows:

1. Lantern fairs to celebrate the Lantern Festival, which falls on Feb 24 this year, is being held from Jan 20 to March 17, running from 10 am to 10 pm.

2. Food markets will tempt visitors on Feb 24-25 to celebrate the Lantern Festival.

3. Aoyu Lantern parades, resembling a dragon dance, are set to wow spectators at 2:30 pm and 7:30 pm on Feb 24.

4. The Shanghai Light Music Orchestra will hold an enchanting music concert at 2:30 pm on Feb 25.

5. Fabric flower DIY session will take place at 2 pm on Feb 14.

6. Crochet DIY experiences are on offer at 1 pm on Feb 15.

7. Coaster DIY experiences are scheduled for 2 pm on Feb 16.
