To showcase Shanghai's rich history and vibrant culture, the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism has recommended 12 distinct city walk routes.
The "In the Shade of Plane Trees" route takes you through a journey of historical landmarks, pocket parks, and cultural centers, providing a glimpse into the soul of the city.
Some say that "in the shade of plane trees lie the essence of Shanghai", stories and culture abound. There are ancient houses under wutong — the plane trees, pocket parks that add flavor to life, and cozy corners perfect for relaxation.
Most notably, there's the affectionate "66 Wutong Courtyard" standing silently like a three-dimensional painting, waiting for you to peruse and study.
Route Highlights
Yuandian Square of Wukang Building
The walk begins at Yuandian Square of Wukang Building, an iconic building in Shanghai. The square, established as part of the building's revitalization efforts, serves as an informational hub for tourists and locals alike, offering a 360-degree view of the area's attractions and historical significance.

Hengshan Garden
Continuing along the route, you'll encounter the charming Hengshan Garden, nestled at the intersection of Hengshan Road and Jianguo West Road.
This triangular "pocket park" spans 2,000 square meters and has been transformed into a vibrant green space that seamlessly integrates the district's rich cultural heritage with the pulse of everyday life, creating a dynamic urban oasis.

"Libo-Water Ripple" Pocket Park
A short stroll away lies "Libo-Shuiyang" Pocket Park, an architectural marvel exuding a distinctly French flair.
