Pink muhly grass blooms in Baoshan district
Pink muhly grass at Xingzhi Memorial Square in Dachang town, Shanghai's Baoshan district, is in full bloom, highlighting the area's transformation from an industrial hub into a livable garden community.
Located at the southeast corner of the square, the pink muhly grass field offers a peaceful alternative to crowded tourist spots.
Named after the renowned Chinese educator Tao Xingzhi, the square provides a quiet retreat where soft pink waves create a dreamlike autumn mist over clean walking paths and lush greenery.
Mid-October to early November is the peak viewing season. Sunny afternoons after 3 pm offer the best lighting for photos, as the low-angle sunlight gives the pink flower spikes a natural glow.
To protect the fragile root systems, visitors must stay on designated paved walkways and avoid trampling the flower beds.
Beyond the flower field, visitors can explore nearby cultural and commercial sites:
Dachang Town Cultural Center and Shanhai Art Museum
Just steps from the flower field, this venue houses an intangible cultural heritage sanctuary showcasing traditional local palm weaving, paper-cutting, and velvet embroidery.
1876 New Vision Creative Park
At No 4290 Hutai Road near Nanchen Road Station on Metro Line 7, this urban renewal landmark was repurposed from 1950s warehouses, featuring distinctive red-brick architecture and art galleries.
Baoshan ASE Mall
Centered around a vast, sunlit glass dome, this major commercial hub sits directly above Dachang Town Station on Metro Line 7, bringing family entertainment, indoor sports, bookstores, and dining together under one roof.
