Dance drama 'Blue and White: Impression of China' to be staged in Fengxian
This August, the dance drama Blue and White: Impression of China, produced by the China Oriental Performing Arts Group, will debut in Shanghai at the Nine Trees Future Art Center in Fengxian district!
At the 2024 CCTV Spring Festival Gala, the dance piece Porcelain Shadow from the drama Blue and White: Impression of China mesmerized audiences with its graceful portrayal of the elegant lines and subtle hues of blue and white porcelain. The performance went viral, amassing over a billion views and igniting a renewed interest in Eastern aesthetics.
The drama tells the story of a senior ceramicist from the late Northern Song Dynasty (960-1279) who dreams of his youthful days learning and settling in Jingdezhen, the renowned porcelain capital in Jiangxi province. The narrative is woven around the forms of porcelain from the Song and Yuan dynasties — bowls, cups, plates, vases, jars, incense burners, and pillows — combining the classic colors of blue and white. It paints a vivid picture of an ordinary life amid the historical shifts in Jingdezhen, while depicting the evolution of the porcelain industry and its crafting techniques.
