Jiushi Art Museum to host Spanish Arts Festival with exhibitions
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Spain, the Shanghai Jiushi Art Museum will hold the Spanish Arts Festival from May to October.
This cultural celebration will feature three major exhibitions: Splendor to Nature: Gaudí with His Era, Splendor Immerses Everything: Sound of Gaudí, and Jorge Rando: Quiero Pintar La Vida.
Splendor to Nature: Gaudí with His Era
Legendary architect Antoni Gaudí is celebrated for his unparalleled creativity. He revolutionized architectural design and material decoration, establishing a robust foundation for the evolution of contemporary and future art. The exhibition will showcase five original pieces of architecture by Gaudí, displayed in China for the first time, alongside 11 architectural models crafted by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and over 230 research drafts and visual materials from Gaudí and his collaborators.
When: May 24 to Oct 8
Splendor Immerses Everything: Sound of Gaudí
The exhibition explores how Gaudí transformed Catalonia's natural landscapes and cultural traditions through groundbreaking spatial aesthetics. By unveiling the creative processes behind masterpieces such as the Sagrada Família, Casa Milà, and Casa Batlló, the exhibition highlights how Gaudí, through natural forms and structures, integrates nature, time, and the human spirit into his designs.
In addition, the exhibition features large-scale Catalonian landscape rock walls and the "Gaudí's AI Hypercube", an innovative piece by Istanbul's award-winning new media studio Ouchhh, providing visitors with a rich and multi-dimensional sensory experience.
When: May 24 to Oct 8
Jorge Rando: Quiero Pintar La Vida
Jorge Rando, a pivotal figure in Spanish Neo-Expressionism, is being honored with his first solo exhibition in Shanghai, marking the largest display of his work in Asia to date. The exhibition will present over 100 pieces from the Museum Jorge Rando in Spain and private collections, including oil paintings, watercolors, and mixed media works.
Additionally, several large-scale pieces by Rando will be unveiled in China for the first time. Visitors will have the opportunity to journey through the artist's six-decade career and witness the evolution of his style across different periods.
