Produced by the renowned Royal Shakespeare Company, Matilda The Musical will make its highly anticipated return to Shanghai on Feb 11, 2026, at the Shanghai Grand Theatre.

Adapted from Roald Dahl's beloved novel, the award-winning musical has taken the world by storm, collecting 101 major theatre awards, including five Tony Awards and seven Olivier Awards.

Since its premiere, the show has toured more than 100 cities in 17 countries. Its first visit to China in 2019 broke box office records, and the 2026 run will mark the 15th anniversary of its international tour.

The story follows Matilda, a perspicacious and mischievous five-year-old with an extraordinary love for books. Stuck in a family that dismisses her and a school led by a fearsome headmistress, she discovers she has a special power. With courage and wit, Matilda not only saves herself but also helps her friends.

The stage design immerses the audience in a spectacular world, from giant letter blocks to swings that soar above the front rows. Beyond the visual magic, the musical explores themes of independence, bravery, equality, and growing up, resonating with both young and adult audiences.
