The acclaimed French musical Don Juan is returning to Shanghai this April at the Shanghai Culture Square.

Composed by Felix Gray in 2003 and staged the following year by director Gilles Maheu, Don Juan has toured France, Canada, South Korea, and beyond over the past two decades. The musical has attracted more than 600,000 attendees worldwide, with over 400,000 original soundtrack albums sold. Following the success of Notre Dame de Paris, it is widely regarded as another landmark French musical that has achieved both artistic excellence and popular success.

Don Juan stands as one of Western literature's most iconic figures, alongside Hamlet, Faust, and Don Quixote. For centuries, over a thousand artistic works, from Moliere's plays to Mozart's opera, have reinterpreted this complex soul. This French musical revival transports audiences to ancient Seville, reimagining the legendary seducer as a man torn between passion and faith.Driven by 41 seamlessly connected songs, the score blends vibrant Latin pop, heartfelt flamenco rhythms, and the free spirit of Gypsy music into a powerful and distinctive sound. Several songs from the production have topped music charts in Canada and France, becoming enduring favorites among musical theater fans.
