Shanghai City Theatre has unveiled its lineup for the second half of 2026, spanning drama, music, dance, traditional opera, and family-friendly shows.

The highlight of the season is the original French-language musical The Red Shoes, written by Marc Lavoine, with music by Fabrice Aboulker. After a successful run in Paris, the musical will premiere in China, with Shanghai as its only stop in the Yangtze River Delta region. Performances are set for Aug 21 to 23.

Other international performances include a recital by Croatian violinist Eva Mach and pianist Petra Gilming on Oct 16, as well as a Nov 15 concert by Italy's Rinaldo Trio, winner of the 44th Franco Abbiati Prize for the most promising young group. In December, the classic ballets Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, and Giselle will be staged in succession.

The program also includes several theater and traditional opera productions. In September, renowned Yueju Opera artist Wang Jun'an will lead performances marking the 120th anniversary of Yueju Opera. In October, novelist Lao She's masterpiece, Camel Xiangzi, will bring to life the struggles of a young rickshaw puller in old Beijing. In November, the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre will present End of the Rainbow, depicting the legendary life of Hollywood star Judy Garland. In December, mystery fans can see Murder Party, a paly paying tribute to Agatha Christie.

For families, the lineup includes the BBC Studios-licensed interactive production Bluey's Big Treasure Hunt. Immersive magic shows and crosstalk performances are also scheduled.

The theater's weekend concert series will continue its cultural-access initiative with 10 performances throughout the year, featuring choral and opera programs as well as ensemble concerts.
