French puppet show explores a world of industrial ruins
French puppetry company Theatre de la Massue will present Opus III, The Industrial Ruins at Theatre Young in Shanghai on Dec 5 and 6.
The 50-minute, dialogue-free performance combines puppets, mechanical installations, and miniature industrial ruins to portray a world after the age of coal, steel, and oil.
Created by French director and stage designer Ezequiel Garcia-Romeu, the production is the final installment of a trilogy he began developing in 2015.
Rather than following a narrative with a fixed beginning and end, Garcia-Romeu invites audiences to explore and interpret the world he creates.
To him, industrial ruins are more than remnants of the past. They also offer a glimpse of the future, reminding us that everything humans build will one day become history.
