Main responsibilities of the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Veteran Affairs are as follows:

1. Formulate policies and regulations on veterans affairs and implement them.

2. Commend the spirit and values demonstrated by veterans in dedicating themselves to the cause of the Party, the country and the people.

3. Responsible for the resettlement of military officers transitioning to civilian life, demobilised officers, retired officers, and voluntarily retired servicemen.

4. Provide supportive services for veterans who independently seek employment after retirement.

5. Organise educational and training programmes for veterans in Shanghai, provide preferential treatment and assistance, and guide relevant support initiatives in the city.

6. Responsible for honouring and awarding martyrs and veterans, maintaining military cemeteries, and organising commemorative activities.
