The construction of the Shanghai East Railway Station, a key part of the city's one-stop integrated transportation hub, the Shanghai Eastern Hub, has achieved a key milestone with the main structures of its energy center and 110-kilovolt power substation now completed. The progress marks a major step toward building a stable and efficient energy system to power the large-scale hub.

As essential supporting facilities, the energy center and substation will supply electricity and energy for the station complex, transfer hub, surrounding commercial developments, and municipal infrastructure. Since construction began, engineers have upheld rigorous standards to ensure the stability and safety of the structures. With the framework now topped out, subsequent work such as equipment installation and system integration can proceed efficiently, ensuring precise execution and on-schedule delivery.

The project aligns with China's "dual-carbon" goals and Shanghai's commitment to green, low-carbon transport infrastructure. Energy-saving technologies and environmentally friendly materials have been integrated throughout the design and construction process to ensure efficient energy use and reduced emissions once operational.

The Shanghai East Railway Station will serve as the centerpiece of the Eastern Hub, located about 5 kilometers from Terminal 1 of the Shanghai Pudong International Airport. It will be China's first high-speed rail station to feature an "air-rail" module, allowing passengers to walk just 250 meters from train exits to airline check-in and security points.

The development of the Eastern Hub coincides with new momentum for the region, as China's top economic planner recently approved the feasibility study for the second Shanghai-Hangzhou High-Speed Railway line. The new route will terminate at the Shanghai East Railway Station, further strengthening the Yangtze River Delta rail network and reinforcing Shanghai's role as a world-class gateway.
