In a major move to boost urban consumption, Shanghai announced its first-ever "Shanghai Summer" international consumption season. The event schedule and offerings were detailed at a press conference on April 10.

The "Shanghai Summer" initiative is designed to synergize the city's peak travel season with its urban appeal and superior transportation network, creating a new urban summer consumption brand. Zhu Min, director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, highlighted the program's aim to offer a unique blend of tourism and city charm.

A variety of events are planned for the season, including the "Top of the Pyramids: Ancient Egyptian Civilization Exhibition", the City Walk Pro Shanghai urban experience season, the inaugural Shanghai International Cruise Festival, the Shanghai Tourism Festival and the prestigious ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai.

The Shanghai International Cruise Festival, scheduled for early August, promises two weeks of maritime festivities. Visitors can look forward to Captain's Reception Days, a "Cruise Line Style Show", and a recreation of cruise ship sports activities such as golf, surfing, e-sports and rock climbing. The festival will also feature a youth cruise sports summer camp and an international cruise culture exhibition.

In addition, "Shanghai Summer" will host 58 themed events, ranging from cultural performances by the Berliner Philharmoniker to interactive shows like the Blue Man Group, and high-profile sports competitions such as the MXGP Motocross World Championship and the Shanghai Masters (snooker). Exhibitions such as CHINAJOY and Pet Fair Asia will cater to diverse interests, while business and travel-related events will further enrich experiences.

To facilitate participation, Shanghai will release a smart timetable and detailed activity guide for the "Shanghai Summer" events. This initiative will integrate transportation, accommodation and ticketing services to ensure a seamless experience for visitors.

To complement these events, Shanghai will introduce service measures to enhance the city's attractiveness to tourists. These include promotional gift packages, lucky draw events and exclusive "Shanghai Summer" travel products. Hotels will offer promotional discounts and departure tax refund shops will hold special promotions to enhance the Shanghai travel experience.

"Shanghai Summer" is set to become an annual event, with this year marking its debut. Shanghai is committed to encouraging participation through robust incentive policies and promotional activities, both domestically and internationally. As summer approaches, Shanghai transforms into a city of joy, extending a warm invitation to experience its vibrant offerings.
