Shanghai is set to kick off its first-ever Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season on July 6.

The event, which will run until the second weekend of October, aims to showcase the city's vibrant culture and attract both domestic and international visitors during the summer travel season.

This initiative comes into effect as China resumes more international flights, expands visa-free policies and enhances its domestic tourism consumption work. Shanghai, known for its openness, inclusivity and innovation, plans to leverage these factors to boost its appeal as a global tourist destination.

The event will feature an impressive lineup of activities that blend commerce, tourism, culture and sports. This includes five new offerings with strong international appeal.

Additionally, 58 key events spanning exhibitions, commercial activities, sports competitions, cultural performances and tourism festivals will unfold throughout the season.

To cater to international guests, Shanghai is implementing several measures to improve its tourism services. They include luggage storage facilities in key commercial areas, duty-free shopping guides and improved foreign card payment acceptance.

Various districts are joining the festivities with their own themed activities. For example, Huangpu district will host the "International Huangpu, More Shanghai" series. Other districts like Yangpu, Fengxian and Qingpu are also hosting unique events such as a German beer festival, a kite festival and drive-in movie screenings.

Companies are also adding to the collective. For instance, Bailian Group is launching special shopping promotions, which includes a new gift card.

To help keep track of the events, the "I GO Shanghai" WeChat mini-program, a handy activity schedule, was recently launched.
