Shanghai ushered in the 2024 service consumption carnival with a grand launch at Gate M in the city's Xuhui district on Aug 23.

The carnival, part of the nationwide service consumption season, is the first of its kind organized by China's Ministry of Commerce – aiming to boost service consumption across the country.

The carnival includes one major launch event, 12 key national activities led by local government departments, and over 110 promotional events spearheaded by local associations and e-commerce platforms.

Running throughout the second half of the year, the consumption carnival offers five major themed events.

From Aug 23 to Sept 17, the city will host a waterfront music concert and an outdoor film festival, featuring performances by 10 bands and screenings of over 10 films.

Additional highlights will include a special tour of Shanghai's iconic landmarks, offering various consumer discounts through China Construction Bank's lifestyle and shopping app.

The autumn exhibition season will showcase local businesses and cultural exhibitions, while the 2024 Shanghai Sports Show will spotlight the sports industry.
