China rolls out subsidies for digital devices, home appliances
The Ministry of Commerce and other government departments in the country have announced new subsidy plans for digital devices and a trade-in program for home appliances — effective Jan 20, 2025.
Under the digital devices subsidy plan, consumers can receive up to 500 yuan ($68.20) per item when purchasing smartphones, tablets or smartwatches priced under 6,000 yuan. The subsidy covers 15 percent of the final sales price after all discounts and each individual can claim subsidies for one item per category.
For home appliances, a trade-in program for 12 categories of products, including refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners, will be implemented in 2025.
Consumers purchasing products with at least a level-2 energy or water efficiency rating can receive subsidies covering 15 percent of the final sales price, with an additional 5 percent for items meeting level-1 standards.
Each customer may claim subsidies for one item per category, with air conditioners eligible for up to three items. The maximum subsidy per item is 2,000 yuan.
Local governments will release specific guidelines for implementing the plans.
