Shanghai kicked off its 2024 International Flower Show, boasting an unprecedented exhibition area of over 100 hectares encompassing various venues across the city.
Besides three primary venues at the Shanghai Botanical Garden, the waterfront of Huangpu River in Xuhui district, and the Lin-gang Special Area, the flower show, which ends on May 22, also features six sub-venues and more than 10 city-themed spots.
The chosen theme flower for this year is the rosa chinensis, commonly known as the China rose. It is a rose species native to Southwest China's Guizhou, Hubei, and Sichuan provinces. Capable of repeating flowering, it is one of China's top 10 most famous flowers. In Chinese culture, this flower symbolizes happiness, longevity, and auspiciousness, and has evolved into a modern symbol of peace.
The exhibition, which proudly displays over 500 varieties of China rose and 2,000 rare plants, is set to infuse the city with a vibrant spring atmosphere.
Established in 2007 alongside the Shanghai World Expo, the show has evolved into a global event, with over 100 organizations presenting 500 horticultural wonders and drawing over 6.5 million visitors annually.
