French opera Mozart-L'opera Rock will return to Shanghai after its China debut six years ago, retaking the stage of Shanghai Culture Square from June 27 to July 14.

The opera's narrative unfolds from Mozart's youthful days, chronicling his journey as he navigates through opportunities, temptations, envy, and challenges in the music world following his departure from the shadow of being a child prodigy. The production showcases Mozart's talents as they resurface, highlighting his return to his artistic roots.

Distinguishing itself from Broadway and West End productions, French-language musicals like Mozart-L'opera Rock have been crafted to highlight French culture. Embracing their unique language and aesthetic system, these productions have garnered widespread popularity among audiences from all over the world.

Having made its debut at the Paris Opera Theatre in 2009 to resounding acclaim, Mozart-L'opera Rock made its grand debut in China at the Shanghai Culture Square in January 2018. The 24 performances that followed were an overwhelming success, with the first eight shows selling out six months in advance, a testament to the opera's enduring popularity and allure.

Mikelangelo Loconte, the opera's lead actor who portrays the character of Mozart, shared his perspective on the legendary composer, saying, "For me, the so-called 'spirit of Mozart' is the art of freedom, and I think he is the world's first 'rock star'." Loconte's portrayal brings to life the essence of Mozart's genius and rebellious spirit.
