In the early days of July, the Guyi Garden in Shanghai's Jiading district is set to host the 11th Shanghai Lotus and Water Lily Exhibition, a much-anticipated event.

Through the lush greenery of lotus leaves, the majestic presence of lotus flowers, the blooming beauty of water lilies, and artistic displays, this exhibition promises to showcase the enchanting grace and allure of nature.

Beyond the natural display of lotus flowers and water lilies, this year's exhibition will also feature artistic installations that combine wood carving, silk painting, bamboo weaving, and wool winding. These intangible cultural heritage crafts, in combination with the lotus flowers and water lilies, will create a multi-dimensional experience for visitors.

Situated in Nanxiang town, Jiading district, the Guyi Garden dates back over 500 years, to the Ming Dynasty (1368 to 1644). Encompassing an area of around 10 hectares, this garden stands as a quintessential representation of classical Jiangnan gardens. This year holds special significance for the garden, which was partly destroyed during the War against Japanese Agression (1931 to 1945), as it celebrates the 65th anniversary of its reopening in 1959 after years of renovation.
