This summer, the highly anticipated "Museum Night" event is making a grand return to Shanghai.
Organized by the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, this year's iteration of "Museum Night" promises a rich tapestry of special exhibitions, engaging activities, cultural and creative displays, social interactions, and immersive lifestyle experiences.
A total of 45 museums spread across 14 districts in the city will partake in the initiative on weekend evenings throughout the summer. Building on the successes of previous years, these museums are gearing up to provide visitors with an even more captivating and stimulating experience by seamlessly blending elements of culture, history, art, and innovation to craft an enchanting "Museum Night" series in Shanghai.
Among the standout special exhibitions are a monumental showcase of ancient Egyptian artifacts at the Shanghai Museum; an exhibition chronicling Shanghai's resilience through wars to attain the status of "a city of glory" at the Shanghai History Museum; a mesmerizing shadow play exhibition delving into the fantastical realm of Chinese myths at the World Expo Museum; an exploration of ancient Chinese science and technology at the Fengxian Museum; and a presentation of exquisite royal artifacts from the Han Dynasty (202 BC to AD 220) at the Minhang Museum, among other remarkable exhibits.
An array of special activities have also been organized across various museums throughout the city, including fossil excavations at the Shanghai Natural History Museum, nighttime sky observations at the Shanghai Astronomy Museum, and immersive cultural experiences like touching a piece of ancient pottery shard at the Fengxian Museum. Moreover, various museums are offering innovative discounts and activities to enhance the overall visitor experience.
