Shanghai Book Fair 2024: A literary extravaganza unveiled

Organizers of the Shanghai Book Fair, set to take place from Aug 14 to 20 at the Shanghai Exhibition Center, have revealed a lineup of events set to captivate reading enthusiasts.

During the second press conference on the fair on Aug 7, it was announced that approximately 400,000 tickets will be available for visitors, with a plethora of over 1,000 online and onsite activities planned to engage attendees.

Enhancements in the ticketing system have been implemented to streamline the booking process, offering on-site ticket purchasing options and convenient service locations to ensure a relaxing atmosphere, with a particular focus on accommodating readers with disabilities.

This year, Jiangsu province will take the spotlight as the guest of honor. Xu Hai, deputy general manager of Jiangsu Phoenix Publishing and Media Group, unveiled ambitious plans to showcase nearly 4,700 high-quality books spanning various genres, such as humanities, social sciences, literature, and children's books.

Collaborations with China Publishing Group and Century Publishing Group are set to increase the influence of Shanghai's rich literary heritage, elevating the fair's appeal and cultural impact.

A diverse array of over 80 onsite activities is on the agenda, including book launches, readers' meetings, and lectures by esteemed writers and experts. The fair will also host a lineup of renowned authors presenting their latest collections, offering attendees a unique opportunity to engage with literary luminaries.

Moreover, the Shanghai Book Fair will feature an international art book special exhibition and sales area, designed to attract a myriad of global perspectives and artistic expressions, enriching the event’s cultural tapestry.

"We aim to contribute to the promotion of Chinese culture on the international stage through the Shanghai Book Fair," said Tan Yi, general manager of Shanghai FTZ International Culture Investment and Development Co., Ltd. The fair promises to be a celebration of literature, culture, and creativity, uniting literary enthusiasts and industry professionals from around the world in a vibrant showcase of the written word.
