Shanghai's Water Sport Club will host the fifth leg of the 10th Meisha Education National Youth Sailing League from Aug 14 to 18 at the Bihai Jinshan Bay Resort in Fengxian district, where the sailing club is located.
The event is organized by the China Yachting Association (CYA), the Fengxian District Sports Bureau of Shanghai, and the Fengxian District Bay Tourist Resort Management Committee. Nearly 250 young sailors from across the country will compete in 13 categories, including Optimist, Topper, ILCA4, and FD Future.
The Meisha Education National Youth Sailing League was established in 2015 and launched at Dishui Lake in Shanghai, and has since developed into one of the top youth sailing competitions in China. The event plays a significant role in promoting sailing among young people, with a strong focus on the physical and mental well-being of young sailors and their overall development. Through innovative activities and increased interaction with participating clubs and schools, the league has become a vital platform for youth sailing education and exchange.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the league featured seven legs for the first time this year, with the previous leg respectively taking place in Shenzhen in Guangdong province, Nanjing in Jiangsu province, Xiamen in Fujian province and Suzhou in Jiangsu. Zhejiang’s Ningbo will host the sixth event in late August, and the final will be held in Qinhuangdao, Hebei province, during the National Day holiday.
Shanghai, where the legacy of water sports runs deep, is hosting the fifth leg. Shanghai is hometown of Olympic champion Xu Lijia, who won the gold medal in the Laser Radial class (now ILCA6) at the 2012 London Olympics.
