Eight of the latest British theatrical productions from the UK's National Theatre Live are set to grace the screens of Shanghai on Sept 20-29, promising an unforgettable experience for moviegoers.

Ticket sales for the screenings, a collaborative effort between Beijing-based ATW Culture Media and Broadway Cinemathque, kicked off at 2pm on Sept 14.

Three cinemas – the Palace Cinema Shanghai (L+Mall and North Bund Raffles City) and Premiere Theatre Jing'an Kerry Centre – will be hosting the screenings of the on-stage theatrical productions.

The lineup of eight productions includes a diverse range of compelling narratives – Edward Scissorhands, The Motive and the Cue, Dear England, Nye, Macbeth, Life of Pi, Good and Prima Facie. Among these, Prima Facie, featuring Emmy Awards winner Jodie Comer, stands out as a best-selling production worldwide under the NT Live banner, adding to the allure of the cinematic showcase.

Nye, the latest production from UK's National Theatre – which delves into the riveting life story of Aneurin "Nye" Bevan, the visionary founder of the Britain's National Health Service – capturing his triumphs and tribulations.

Additionally, Dear England offers a unique perspective on soccer, intertwining national spirit with humor in a captivating narrative.

These high-definition screenings are said to capture the essence of live performances staged at UK's National Theatre and London's prestigious West End – offering audiences in Shanghai a glimpse into the vibrant world of British theater.

The film festival, a long-standing screening event, may extend its tour to other cities following its Shanghai showcase, spreading the magic of theater far and wide.

In a testament to cultural exchanges and collaborations, ATW Culture Media has spearheaded the UK-China film partnership, recently hosting the inaugural Global Stage on Screen event featuring Chinese-language theatrical productions in the UK.

Over 10 high-definition film productions from groups like the National Ballet of China and the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre have been presented over 20 times at five locations across the UK, fostering cross-cultural artistic dialogue and appreciation.
