The Global Data Ecosystem Conference 2024 was held in Shanghai from Oct 19 to 20, highlighting the innovation and application of blockchain technology.

With the theme of "Data World, Connected Future", the event delivered a series of outcomes via over 30 activities.

A joint effort between Shanghai Data Group and the Shanghai Data Service Provider Association, the event solidified its position as a key showcase for progress in the digital economy, a platform for digital business opportunities, and a global hub for data collaboration.

Over the years, Shanghai has been actively promoting the efficient and compliant use of data to bolster its real economy. In 2023, the added value of the city's core digital economy industries surpassed 600 billion yuan ($84.5 billion).

Partnerships were formed with international organizations such as Germany's International Data Spaces and Singapore's SG Tech to enhance international data exchange and cooperation. This was done by exploring new business opportunities for domestic companies while attracting more data service providers to set up operations in Shanghai, according to the organizers.

During the conference, the National Data Group Alliance was launched as the first of its kind in China to create a network for industry collaboration and safeguard equal rights for data groups. Reports on the data industry were also released and six demonstration projects of blockchain applications were staged during the event.

In addition, the conference witnessed the unveiling ceremony of the Digital Economy and Data Innovation Laboratory in Yangpu district during a forum that centered on the security and compliance of data circulation.

According to Xu Huili, director of Shanghai Municipal Data Bureau, the city will leverage its diverse resources to establish a data compliance governance system, aiming to foster the steady growth of the data industry, bolster sci-tech innovation in key areas, and ensure an effective data ecosystem.
