The China Shanghai International Performing Arts Fair (ChinaSPAF), a major part of the 23rd China Shanghai International Arts, opened in Shanghai on Oct 19.

Held at the BOCOM New Bund 31 Performing Arts Centre from Oct 18 and 21, the event provides a platform for dialogue and cooperation among global performing arts institutions and for international performing arts institutions to enter the Chinese market.

This year's fair attracted over 500 professional organizations and more than 2,000 industry guests from around the world.

On the opening day, 13 major cooperation agreements were signed on-site.

The China Shanghai International Arts Festival Center signed a memorandum of cooperation with the International Society for the Performing Arts. It also inked a deal with the organizing committee of the International Chopin Piano Competition to collaborate in areas such as arts education and talent exchange.

As one of the most influential cultural platforms in the Asia-Pacific region, the ChinaSPAF helps connect global art organizations, artists, and agencies with the Chinese market.

At this year's ChinaSPAF, renowned performing arts organizations, such as the London Sadler's Wells, the Shanghai Grand Theatre, and the British classical agency Harrison Parrott, agreed to stage performances such as the large-scale dance drama Carmina Burana and solo concerts by sopranos Aida Garifullina and Anna Netrebko in Shanghai.

In addition, representatives of major performing arts platforms, including the China Association of Performing Arts, the Sibiu International Theatre Festival in Romania, and the European Shakespeare Festivals Network Foundation, discussed new trends and challenges in the global performing arts market, sharing their respective views.

The fair also showcased original Chinese works to expand their global reach and promote cultural exchanges.
