Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining highlighted the city's commitment to promoting deep integration between technological and industrial innovation during the opening ceremony of the two-day 2024 Innovation Conference in Shanghai on Dec 5.

The event, organized by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the China Media Group, attracted distinguished representatives from universities, research institutions, leading technology innovation enterprises, and investment institutions.

Chen emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities in the fields of digital transformation, intelligent technologies, and sustainable development.

He also stressed the pivotal role of cultivating new quality productive forces as the driving engine for high-quality development.

Chen said that Shanghai would promote revolutionary breakthroughs in technology, increase investment in fundamental research, support high-risk and high-value foundational research, and address challenges in key core technologies.

The opening ceremony also marked the launch of the Innovation Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence Technology and Governance.

CMG President Shen Haixiong lauded Shanghai's leadership in the realm of innovation.

Li Xiaohong, president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, emphasized the critical role of scientific innovation in propelling new quality productive forces. He commended the enduring collaboration between the academy, CMG, and Shanghai, expressing confidence in their collective mission to expedite the growth of innovative technologies.

The opening ceremony also featured the unveiling of the 2024 White Paper on the Science and Technology Innovation Board, which highlighted the latest advancements in the STAR Market.

Additionally, CMG showcased its ultra-high-definition audio-visual innovations at the opening ceremony.
