'Future of Museums' Symposium promotes Chinese wisdom, Chinese solutions

On the morning of Dec 9, 2024, the "Future of Museums" — 2024 Shanghai ICOFOM-ASPAC Symposium opened in Siyuan Hall of Guanghua Towers, Fudan University.

The symposium was jointly hosted by ICOFOM-ASPAC and Fudan University, and co-organized by the Department of Cultural Heritage and Museology of Fudan University and Fudan University Museum.

The opening ceremony was moderated by Chen Zhimin, Vice President of Fudan University and attended by Xu Zheng, Executive Vice President of Fudan University, Xiang Yihai, Deputy Director-General of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism (Shanghai Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage), Liu Shuguang, President of ICOM China and Janet Siew Mooi Tee, Chair of ICOFOM-ASPAC, who delivered speeches.

The three-day symposium saw more than 70 representatives from nearly 10 countries including China, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Russia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and Germany in attendance. More than 30 speakers from home and abroad gave speeches and attended roundtable discussions on the synergistic development of museums and cities, as well as the sustainable development of university museums.

In addition to enabling Chinese experts and scholars in the field of museums to actively participate in the international governance of museums, the symposium also aimed to contribute Chinese wisdom and solutions to positively impact the development of museums worldwide by promoting exchanges and mutual learning among museums in the Asia-Pacific region.
