Loro Piana, an Italian luxury brand, held an exhibition titled "If You Know, You Know: Loro Piana's Quest for Excellence" at the Museum of Art Pudong in Shanghai to celebrate its centenary anniversary and honor its long-standing connection to China.

Curated by Judith Clark, the exhibition showcases Loro Piana's history, heritage, craftsmanship, and family legacy through a mix of archival documents, materials, artworks, and specially created silhouettes.

Spanning over 1,000 square meters across three galleries with 15 rooms, the exhibition is designed to reflect Loro Piana's DNA and origins.

Starting with The Story of Loro Piana, it features artworks that highlight the brand's commitment to heritage craft and cultural exchange. It then delves into the brand's origins through historical documents and photos from its archive in Varallo, Italy.

The Into Fashion section displays Loro Piana's iconic products, such as the Traveller, Roadster, Spagna, Horsey, Icer, Winter Voyager, Defender jackets, Open Walk shoes, and Andre Shirt, while Against Bad Weather showcases the brand's innovative approach to combining softness and functionality.

A lab section illustrates the quality control process, and the Landscapes room represents the sourcing of Loro Piana's unique fibers. Ten standout silhouettes crafted with different fibers are positioned next to their respective landscapes. The exhibition also includes rooms dedicated to heirloom fabrics, the symbolic thistle, and an immersive film about Loro Piana's homeland.

The original thistle machine, shipped from Italy to Shanghai, symbolizes the textile tradition of softening coarse fabrics. The thistle has been part of Loro Piana's Coat of Arms since 1951.

The retrospective concludes with an oversized cashmere sofa and a soundscape that merges Chinese and Italian cultures.

Additionally, the exhibition offers visitors a cozy spot to sit and appreciate Qiu Zhijie's artwork from the Mappa Mundi series, a six-meter-long fictional piece depicting the diverse histories of cultural exchange with China.

The exhibition runs until May 5.
