International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians held in Shanghai

The 10th Triennial International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians opened in Shanghai on Jan 3, bringing together thousands of mathematicians, researchers, and students from around the globe for five days of high-level academic exchange.

The congress, which runs until Jan 7, features more than 300 academic presentations and forums covering basic and applied mathematics, as well as interdisciplinary fields such as mathematics and artificial intelligence and biomedical science.

These activities aim to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and promote interactions among mathematics, industry, education, and science communication.

The opening ceremony honored the legacies of Chinese mathematicians, including Hua Luogeng, and featured keynote addresses by renowned mathematicians on groundbreaking work.

Fields Medalist Andrei Okounkov, a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, shared recent advances in representation theory and Lie theory.

Professor Wang Hong of New York University's Courant Institute presented her collaborative proof of the long-unsolved three-dimensional Kakeya conjecture.

Initiated by acclaimed mathematician Shing-Tung Yau in 1998, the triennial ICCM serves as a premier platform for showcasing the highest achievements of Chinese mathematicians and for fostering collaboration and advancing mathematics both in China and the world at large.
