A cohort of international patients grappling with severe diseases have been cured through CAR-T cell treatment at SinoUnited Health, a hospital in Shanghai. This revolutionary therapy has emerged as a leading method for combating tumors.

CAR-T cell therapy, renowned for its efficacy in treating various forms of blood cancer such as multiple myeloma and lymphoma, has made significant strides in China, where six domestically commercialized products have garnered acclaim for their therapeutic potential.

Among the remarkable cases is that of a 72-year-old patient hailing from the UK, who confronted a relentless battle against relapsed cancer. Diagnosed with multiple myeloma six years ago, his condition took a turn for the worse three years later, rendering him too frail to withstand conventional chemotherapy treatments.

Fortuitously, a recommendation from a fellow patient from New Zealand led the UK patient to discover the CAR-T cell therapy offered at SinoUnited Health. Following an initial online consultation with Zhou Lili, director of the hospital's hematology department, and deliberations with his local healthcare team, the patient resolved to embark on the treatment journey in China.

The process commenced with the collection of T cells on July 20, culminating in the infusion of CAR-T cells on Sept 2. Despite experiencing a post-treatment bout of high fever for one week, diligent monitoring of his vital signs revealed a swift recovery.

Following a comprehensive assessment and meticulous follow-up planning, the patient, buoyed by his remarkable progress, returned to the UK 14 days after the CAR-T cell infusion.
