US teacher shares her decade-long life in Shanghai's Jiading
The first session of a community event series in the Lujia area of Malu town, Jiading district, Shanghai, recently kicked off with a captivating talk by Magalie Occean from the United States.
Magalie moved locals by sharing her personal stories and reflections on life in Shanghai and beyond.
Magalie first came to Shanghai in 2014 after leaving New York in 2013 to travel the world. What was supposed to be a two-year journey led her to settle in Malu, where she has now lived for a decade.
During the session, she recounted her life and travels across Shanghai and other cities in China.
While working as an English teacher, her decision to make Jiading her long-term home was deeply influenced by the city's openness and cultural diversity. She highlighted how the clean environment and warm, welcoming community made her feel a genuine sense of belonging.
She expressed her appreciation for the community's invitation, saying that she was very happy to share her stories and insights, and hoped that her experiences would inspire more people to love life.
The recently launched "Minxing Lounge" event is designed to encourage community residents from all walks of life to take the stage and share their everyday experiences, touching moments, and personal growth journeys.
