The Liu Haisu Art Museum is a comprehensive facility that combines collection and storage, academic research, exhibition displays, education and cultural exchange, which was founded on a generous donation by Liu Haisu (1896-1994).

Liu was considered one of the founding fathers of modern Chinese art education. He dedicated his life to the pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty through art education and innovation. In his later years, he selflessly donated his major works as well as his collection of paintings and calligraphy to the country.

The establishment of the Liu Haisu Art Museum aims to pass on and uphold Liu's ideals of aesthetic education, cultural beliefs and the artistic path.

Initially situated in the Hongqiao area of Shanghai, the museum began its relocation in September 2012 to accelerate the development of Shanghai's international cultural metropolis.

The museum is now located in Changning district and spans an impressive 12,540 square metres and its architecture draws inspiration from one of Liu's paintings, seamlessly blending with the lush greenery that surrounds it.

The museum endeavours to innovate its development trajectory by integrating both online and offline platforms and embracing the concept of "Internet + Art Museum".

Furthermore, it actively supports young artists through an international "Young Artists Program", which includes exhibitions and the promotion of their artwork.

Additionally, the museum advocates for openness and sharing, strengthening cultural exchanges and providing public cultural services.
